SU93’s FIRST LEGO League Girl Scout team is open to Girl Scouts ages 9 to 14. Hardware and software are provided.

What’s LEGO League?

LEGO League is a robotics competition club. Students learn how
to frame and solve problems using programmable LEGO Spike robots.

Each season is a new challenge. Robots need to advance, climb,

descend, turn, and navigate, and can use light, sound, and color

sensors. Teams can compete at the regional level and winners go on

to state competitions!

LEGO League teaches robotics, coding, teamwork, leading, learning

by doing, and cooperative learning, reinforcing many Girl Scout values and opening the door to STEM careers.

Plus, the kids get to play with LEGO.

 

What’s the LEGO League Girl Scout team?

GSHNJ is committed to running several teams. Each team is made up of Girl Scouts ages 9 to 14.

We meet once a week in Bloomsbury on Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. from the beginning of August to the end of November (which is the competition). Parents/guardians are welcome to stay and watch, but you can drop off your Girl Scout and come pick her up later too. Snacks are provided. Your Girl Scout can earn four coding and robotics badges!

There are three coaches who are all background-checked troop leaders: Idria Knecht (SU 91/93 Manager), Rick Knecht (92410), and John Kane (33093). We also have two peer mentors who have been through the entire competition process several times, Alex Knecht and Autumn Kane.

What does it cost?

The fee is $125 per Girl Scout. This covers all materials, a team shirt, and registration to the competition. If finances are a concern, please ask; assistance is available.
